University-wide standing committees, task forces, and administrative/coordinating councils are an important part of campus governance. These groups assist the University administration in campus planning and decision-making, as well as ensure representation and engagement of appropriate segments of the University community.
The Faculty Senate aids The University of Alabama in making judgments on questions of policy, development and operations and thereby to assist the University in its continuing quest for excellence.
The Office for Academic Affairs supports department chairs across campus through the Department Chair Consortium. The Consortium meets twice per semester to engage with senior leadership and discuss issues central to department chairs across colleges. In addition, OAA offers an annual orientation for new department chairs.
The purpose of the Faculty Development Collaborative is provide a space for units across campus to work together to support faculty in research, service, leadership and well-being.
Each college has an associate dean for research who supports faculty within the college in the pursuit, discovery and dissemination of knowledge through research, creative scholarship and technology that impacts our students, our state, the nation and the world.
The Council of Deans meets regularly to consult with the Provost on matters pertaining to academic policy and administration. The Council also serves as a primary channel of communication among the academic divisions.
The Council of Assistant & Associate Deans (CAAD) is a forum for assistant and associate deans in the various colleges to discuss and learn about important academic initiatives across campus.
