The Emerging Leaders Program: Foundations for Academic Leadership, a yearlong professional development opportunity designed to support and cultivate early-career faculty leadership in higher education contexts.
This program consists of four quarterly, two-hour sessions and is designed to build leadership capacity and confidence through the following core areas:
- Exploring Leadership Identity and Opportunity
- Helping participants recognize their strengths and potential for leadership within their current roles.
- Understanding Higher Education Culture and Governance
- Offering insight into decision-making structures, shared governance, and institutional dynamics.
- Navigating Mid-Level Leadership Challenges
- Focusing on communication, trust-building, and conflict resolution in “middle space” roles.
- Strategic Thinking and Career Planning
- Supporting alignment of personal goals with institutional missions and creation of a leadership development plan.
Led by experienced faculty and administrators, the program will foster both professional growth and community among newer faculty members who show promise for future leadership.
Faculty are nominated by department chairs. These are individuals who stand out for their leadership ability, insight and initiative, regardless of whether they currently hold a formal title. This program is open to faculty who are advanced assistant/early associate professors (this includes tenure-line and renewable contract) or experienced instructors/senior instructors.
